Different Types of Controls and Controllers

A control feature can be operated:

  • from the application locally (via Bluetooth Mesh),

  • from the application remotely (via the WiFi/Bluetooth Mesh gateway),

  • from a bound control feature (e.g. switch),

  • from a scenario,

  • from a voice assistant.

Local Control

Controllers can be operated from the App within the home itself.

To transmit its commands to the network, the App must be able to connect within range to at least one product with the Proxy Node role.

For a mesh network to be functional, it must include at least one Proxy Node product.

Requirement: The gateway is a Proxy Node.

Remote Control

Controllers can be operated remotely provided a gateway has been installed in the home. The gateway ensures communication between the internet (IoTHub and remote App) and the Bluetooth Mesh network.

Communication between the access point (e.g. the home’s internet box) and the gateway uses WiFi.
